Take a more sculptural approach to jewelry making with wax carving. In this class, you will gain a complete understanding of the lost wax casting process by creating 1-2 rings in wax and finishing 1 silver casting. Students will learn basic wax carving techniques such as drafting/sizing out a ring in wax, removing/adding wax, working with different types of wax and tools, and finishing techniques for wax. One wax will be professionally cast in sterling silver which you will then learn how to clean and finish. We will also go over the casting process and talk about production methods used in jewelry making that you can use in your own practice. One silver casting is included in the course. If you choose to work larger than sample size or would like additional casts in other metals, additional fees will apply. The class is limited to 5 students. A familiarity with basic hand tools (ex. jewelry saw, files) is ideal but no previous experience is required for this expansion workshop.
